"Having
sex is like playing bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have
a good hand."
--Woody Allen
This site is a collection of articles from magazines and books that may be
useful for researching various aspects about bridge. I started it out of need.
Very often I would be discussing something with a partner and I would remember
having read an article or book somewhere on the topic. That was usually followed
by a few hours of rummaging through old Bridge World magazines or ACBL Bulletins
or bridge books. This is an attempt to classify those articles for easy
retrieval.
There is no advocacy for a particular system or methods here. For example,
over 2C is 2D better used to show controls or "waiting"? There are articles by
experts on both approaches. Was "Kokish" meant to be used only with bad
responder hands which can only be described by 2D over 2C? According to Eric,
himself, the answer is "yes". Yet there are bidding problems in which the
experts use Kokish when 2D is waiting (see Larry Cohen's article under
"Constructive Bidding").
I've tried to classify things into various compartments, but there is the
inevitable overlap since an article on "partnership advice" can also touch on
competitive bidding methods. One day I plan to add a search engine so that these
there will be no need for these classifications.
