The aim of this year’s workshop will be to discuss all of the constituents of modern concretes … EXCEPT Portland cement, water, and natural aggregates.

Possible topics to be discussed may include, but are not limited to:

1.    Recycled concrete aggregate

2.    Unconventional aggregates (glass, rubber……)

3.    Aggregates for internal curing of high performance concrete

4.    Unconventional pozzolanic materials (a world without fly ash or slag)

5.    Fillers, such as limestone

6.    Chemical admixtures, and admixture/binder interactions

7.    Non-portland cements (geopolymers……)

8.    Disposal of hazardous wastes in cement kilns; non-traditional fuels

9.    “Self-healing” concrete

Implicitly, these topics all touch on different aspects of reducing the carbon footprint of concrete, i.e. “green” concrete.

The purpose of the workshop will be to bring together people from the different sectors involved (engineers, educators, researchers, specifiers, material producers) to discuss these technical issues. The goal is to provide input on future directions in both research and practice.
